I'm taking pre-college classes at the Academy of Art University in San Fransisco. Today was day one and it has been fun. I am tired because I had to wake up at six this morning, but it was all good. I've met new, interesting people that I hope to have fun with for the rest of the six weeks of class that I am taking. I like my teachers well, so far.
I'm taking the following four classes:
Figure Drawing - Monday/Friday 8:30-11:20
Comic Book Illustration - Monday/Friday 12:00-2:50
3-D Modeling Maya - Tuesday/Thursday 8:30-11:20
Animation - Tuesday/Thursday 12:00-2:50
I slept late last night, so I am quite tired today. I do hope I get out of my sleeping late habit. It would be most helpful to me. I have to wake up at six from now on for a while. Hehehe... I have Wednesdays and the weekends off, but that still means I have to go most of the week. The first day has been great and I hope it stays in that direction.
My first class was figure drawing. It was a nice class. The class was a bit quiet, but I guess it IS seven, so I'll let that matter be. We had a model today and it was fun. My proportion sketches turned out looking so funky, but I can say that the figure drawing was decent at least. The teacher's and his assistant's things were amazing. They simply blew me away. The teacher really knows his stuff and so does his TA. The class got to look at his stuff and my god, they are excellent, I must say. He drew with us for one of the drawings (it was either the teacher or the TA) and when I looked, it was great. I hope to make progress and have fun in the class, so here's to that! I knew one person in my class from school, so that was pretty nice. Everyone else were new faces. I've met a few people and I hope to get along with everyone.
The second class, the comic book illustration class is my favorite class so far. The teacher and this one dude in my class made it a real exciting class. Everyone else was great, too. Lots of exciting personalities in that class. But it IS in the afternoon, so I'm assuming everyone has more energy for that class than a morning one. Our teacher is the BOMB. His stuff is fab and I hope to learn what he can offer and apply it. He's been a comic artist for 18, 19 months about, and my God he has experience in this field. I'm short on two main supplies for that class because those things were sold out, but I am hoping that it will not hinder my ability to do as much as I can in the class.
So here's to hoping that this Summer will be fun, exciting, and productive!
Part two of it! From what happened on Tuesday:
Well, I got up and got on the right bus and train and I got to San Fransisco in the right time. Everything was all good and according to plan, but I got lost on the way to ALL of the campuses. @.@ It was really sad, I was late to all of my classes on that day. For Maya, they were still getting the computers fixed up and all that so it was fine and I didn't miss anything. There was a good thing about being late, though. On the way into a building to check the bus schedule, free Jamba juice and a little cake was being given away to all students. I took one before I got on the bus and that jittered me up a bit.
In Maya, I learned a few of the basics. That class, I must say is SMALL. There's only five people in the class including me, and I'm the only chick in there. xD The teacher was real nice, he let me take a nap during our fifteen minute break time. My 3-D classmates were... tolerable people. One dude didn't get anything in the lesson, so he kept telling the teacher that he didn't get it. (He was doing that every few minutes...) and then the dude behind him told the teacher "Not to sound like I'm bragging, but I already know this" when he looked over at a sheet of Maya basics information the teacher gave us. I stayed after class to get stuff cleared up, but I wound up missing my bus because of that.
I was very late to animation class, as well. I couldn't find the campus from the bus station near it so I got really late. I was walking up and down slopes looking for it. Eventually I found it, I didn't miss the main thing according to the teacher. I was around during the main part of the class and got to watch the animation clips, so I should be good. I started on what the class assignment was supposed to be already in the fear that I might run out of time during class. Here's to hoping it turns out fine. The teacher in animation has quite an experience in animation. He used to work for Disney.
I tried to get my missing supplies because the art store was supposed to get its truck, but it turns out they lost the truck somehow? I got a bit miffed because of a missing truck... (A truck full of art supplies goes missing, please tell me there's a good reason for why that happened) I'm hoping to get some of the stuff on Thursday because the shipment was supposed to come in today. I need a pen tip. The comic board will have to wait until the end of the week or Monday. (Hopefully end of the week)
Eventually I found my way back to the train station to get back home. I have now learned that I will next time bring a book with me because it gets boring. A whole hour of riding on buses and trains isn't exactly... exciting.
But I now hopefully know my way to and from my classes. Here's to hoping!
